Dr. Prendes-Alvarez received her Medical Degree, with research distinction, and Masters in Public Health from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She completed her adult psychiatry residency & child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Miami/Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital. She is a double board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  

Dr. Prendes-Alvarez has been recognized throughout her career for her teaching, outstanding leadership, scholarly achievements, excellence in psychotherapy and her compassion. She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha – a national medical honor society. Her clinical and academic interests include: psychodynamic psychotherapy, mood and anxiety disorders, college mental health, supervision and medical education. She has published work in peer-reviewed journals and medical textbooks.

Dr. Prendes-Alvarez is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she teaches and supervises medical students and psychiatrists in training. She previously worked at the University of Miami Counseling Center, where she treated UM undergraduate and graduate students.

She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is an adjunct member of the Florida Psychoanalytic Institute, where she completed a 2-year psychodynamic psychotherapy course and where she is currently an analytic candidate.
